shifts into neutral from reverse, not forward

I have a 92 Sea Ray 180, 4.3 mercruiser, alpha one. I can shift into neutral only from reverse, not from forward (under load, in water). So when I need neutral after forward, I have to back the throttle into reverse, catch reverse, then shift into neutral. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,....

Theres a switch on the shift plate, where the forward, 'n lower shift cables come together,...
Are the wires hooked up to it,..??

Also make sure that your shift cable isn't being pulled on. I zip-tied my ground lead to it and had the same problem going from reverse to neutral.
