Re: shifter/throttle issue

Gotta be something broke or jammed in the throttle/shifter. If it was an emergency, you could undo the shift cable from the motor's shift linkage to give it fast neutral and the hook it back up once started.

Maybe it only need some lube inside?

It sounds as though the shift control is out of adjustment for the neutral position or wore. Have you tried to move the lever both directions while pushing in on the button? I have the same control and have to pull it back to reverse a tad before it will let me push the button in. If it goes in then, you can adjust your shift cable on the motor some and see if it dose the trick. JMO

Check throttle cable tension at the motor, too much pressure holding the linkage to 'idle' can contribute to shifter problems. You need just a slight positive pressure to hold at idle.
