1978 Mercruiser, IL6 engine, pre alpha drive. Adjusted the shift cable, noticed that the motor cuts out when going into reverse. Watched the shift lever operate. When the shifter moves into reverse gear, the mechanism that opens the cut out switch moves and shuts the boat down. When going into or out of forward the mechanism does not move. i need help understanding how this process works as i thought it worked only going out of gear.
