Hi all, looks like a great site with alot of knowlegeable people here. This is my first post.
I just got a 82 merc 50hp tiller. the motor seems to run just fine. I just put a new impeller in and got the lower unit bolted in. I was running it in the driveway with muffs, checked to make sure i have forward , N, Reverse. that all works good. My question is when I have a it running in nuetral it seems like it kinda wants to go back into reverse (faint click). When I apply just a tad of pressure on the shifter upward It doesnt click , like it is definatly in neutral. There is three little grooves where the shifter is sopose to rest in to hold it in whatever gear it is in. It kinda feels like there is some tension pushing it out of the neutral groove. I havent had time to go pick up a manual yet. Does this sound like I need to adjust the cable to take some tension off? If so how much of a pain in the butt is it to adjust? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!
