I pressure tested my outdrive due to finding a little bit of water in the oil when i drained it. The seal at the shift shaft bushing by the speedo cable hookup is where the air is leaking from. I have a new bushing assembly and plan on replacing it and the impeller while i have it off.

My question; is pulling the shaft and bushing assembly off as easy as loosening the bolts and pulling everything out and replacing or is there other things i need to be aware of. I read somewhere there is a shift crank down there that can come loose when you pull the shaft out. None of my manuals really cover it in detail and was curious if anyone had any advice for me.

Thanks!!

Keep drive in vice or on stand and pull very carefully shaft up, then replace bushing, clean shaft, pack new bushing with grease and slide shaft carefully.
Before disassemble put in FWD gear

I just did mine last month and bought the newer version with the spring clip. $25 and well worth it.
