shift rod retaining clip

I'm getting ready to do the water pump on my 1977 Evinrude 115 V4 outboard. I have the Clymer manual, and it talks about removing the shift rod retaining clip when removing the gearcase. The picture makes it look like a big cotter pin, but I don't see this thing any where around the shift rod assembly. Does anybody have any pictures of this, or can you send me a link to a video or pictures?

That's the problem with the Clymer manuals, they cover to many engines in the same manual.
I think you have the shift linkage below, you need to split #'s 45 and 77. If you remove bolt #71 and nut #108, the bellcrank will come apart releasing the shift rod, don't loose bushing #22.

I'll check it when I get home, but that picture looks like my boat. #45, #77, and #106 look familiar.

I know what you mean about the Clymer manuals. Can you recommend something else better for that engine? I'm new to the boat motor world.
