shift rod bushing removal, 1986 30hp

Is there a way or special tool (number?) to remove the shift rod bushing with out removing all the lower unit shaft and gears?

Is there a way or special tool (number?) to remove the shift rod bushing with out removing all the lower unit shaft and gears?

Think I have seen where you could use a tap to thread brass bushing and use all-thread up thru a piece of steel and use that as a puller.
