Hi All,

Is there a trick to getting the shift lever adjustment right? this is a 1965 9.5 hp evinrude sportwin. I had to undo the linkage to change out the impeller, and every since, the shift lever has been down a couple inches and it pops out of gear in forward if I go any faster than trolling speed. Its like reverse is now where Neutral is, Neutral is where forward was and Forward is even lower now...I cant seem to get the linkage right.

Thank you,

Joel

Re: Shift Lever Adjustment

When you reconnect the shift rod sections, you have to completely remove the screw. This will allow the rod to be inserted far enough to allow the screw to hold the grooved section of the rod correctly.

Agreed. This mistake has been made many times.

Also, if you don't get the groove aligned properly you will destroy the threads on the screw.
