I have a 26' fly bridge cabin cruiser with a GM 454 and a velvet drive trans. The shifter is sticking, but not at the trans. I figure the cable is getting bad. Anybody know a easy way to change out the cable without having to tear the sheathing out with it? Thanks.

The whole cable and sheathing have to come out.. No other way to do it..

Tie or duct tape a length of rope to one end of the old cable and pull the cable out leaving plenty of rope at each end...

Use the rope that you pulled thru with the old cable to pull a new cable back thru... ;)

thanks...it thought that I could simply (!) replace the cable only...that is, buy new cable and feed it back through the existing sheathing.
