Presumably you saw the last boatest.com video on it. That was nearly on the verge of being realistic. Where it showed it was actually slower and less efficient than only a half decent (not even the best of them) 3 blade of a (at last) suitable and matched pitch ? Funny thing is..the video was only available for 24 hours or so. It was then deleted and no longer available, as far as I can remember. Tells a story 😂

This again?

I boat where there are plenty of lakes around so large/very large sample size. I've yet to see someone with one on their boat. Going by where I live, I'd say its safe to say that cost is the #1 factor - $3-5K for a prop? Then what when you hit something - because around here, you will hit something? Who's repairing it? Or are you're supposed to replace?

I get R&D costs and such BUT for heavens sake 3-5K? I can put an awful lot of gas in my boat before I recoup any perceived returns.

There is a Utube video where they talk about MIT inventing a Toroidal prop for drones that is quieter and more efficient than a std prop. They quickly then talk abut the Sharrow prop.

Kinda looks to be a Sharrow ad, with the drone stuff thrown in to make a case for the technology.

Props / horsepower / boat speed / changing characteristics of water with speed / salt water / fresh water / drag of boat hull / twin vs single engine / 2 or 5 blade props .-----The mystery will never go away.

There have been a few posts over the past few years on these propellers. I was a bit surprised to see that even the more optimistic test results showed that it was marginally better than a traditional prop. Yet, the cost difference is substantial.

I'm sure there will be continued improvements and copycat products. Just not sure it is worth $3-5K of your annual beer money.

Ayuh,.... For the price of that prop, I'd stuff a 383 stroker into my barge,...

I buy used props for $35 each and have General Propeller fix them for $100 and come out ahead of buying new $600/set props because I would go broke buying new VP props..... Much less spending 3-5 BOAT units on a single prop that will still get shredded on sunken boats and oyster shoals

I'm a numbers guy...

My boat has a 30 gallon tank. At $4.50/gallon of REC gas (what its currently selling for) a tank full of gas is $135. At $5000 I can buy, 37 tanks of gas. I use 2-3 tanks of gas per year - I fish so I go spot to spot then drop the trolling motor and use that. No tubing or watersports. That works out to 10 years worth of gas. The current boat will probably be gone by then. I will never recoup the purchase cost of this prop because I am guaranteed to hit something in that time frame.

Definitely agree. But now that the originally claimed efficiency and performance claims (that the marketing videos showed against ridiculously miss fitted and poorly pitched competitors props) have been busted (in the latest video against an average at best prop, but well pitched prop), there is just no sense in it at all. That video actually showed a loss in performance in areas…it was then quickly deleted and removed from public view. Someone wasn’t happy with the honesty of it. Boatest took so much stick for their bias previously posted videos, they felt compelled to release a more neutral test. It didn’t work out so well at all. Think most of the prop guys already knew the real story anyway.

We're just waiting for you to buy one so you can share the results ... will make a sticky next to walleyeheads
The results are out there. But haters gotta hate. It's funny how everybody wants to complain about this prop. I like it because I don't have an aversion to new technology like others here. But why do I have to prove it? I am not the one hating on it if you want to prove it to be the failure you think it is do it yourself. I like how people love to Hate this prop. I think I will call this Sharrow Derangement Syndrome. Lmfao

Wouldn't say people "hate it". I think "skeptical" is a better word. The cost of ownership and "claimed" (but debunked) performance aspects are what make folks shy away. And when the subject company makes obviously tilted comparisons, the company's credibility takes a huge hit. They can thank the marketing experts for that one.

All that, plus the the horror of damaging a 5k prop and not being able to have it repaired locally is a deal breaker for most, me thinks.

Too many snake oil salesmen have ruined it for legit innovators.
