Sharp Door Stop

Hi all, first time post. We have a 2020 Harris Grand Mariner tritoon. It's been a great boat except for the door stop which is becoming a hazard with the sharp edge and intrusion into the walkway once the door is open. Cut my foot really bad yesterday on this sharp corner and want to take care of it before aby kids get hurt.

Can anyone recommend an alternate fix to this horrible design. I know i could remove and grind down to a rounded corner but I'd like a quality finish.

Remove it completely. Make a rounded tab out of teak and screw it down. It don’t have to be that tall, it’s to keep the door from moving out/in flopping around. Not really stop, but ,a retainer.

They also make rounded stops too. My brother has them on his pontoon.

Agree with everything you're saying which is why I wanted to show a picture with the door closed to show that amount of height and width aren't really needed

I guess I worded incorrectly, as Grub said above, they technically aren't stops they more retain the door when it's stopped. I guess I may be able to rig those to work in the same manner. They just have a bigger footprint than necessary.

I think they're the same thing: or at least what I'm used to. Lift the door over the rounded end and it's held by the flat side. There's one when you want to stop the door open, and then on the boat I'm used to the latch holds it when the door is closed.

You're right, in essence it is the same thing because that's the same thing we have on yhr back end when the door is open. Was just hoping for a minimally round object with a smaller footprint. While your link is infinitely safer it still may protrude a bit turning into a trip hazard.

I'm probably overthrowing it and will most likely replace with your linked item if I can find anything else smaller.

I'm fairly handy but being how small the part is, I was more than fine spending $30 on a part to keep a nice factory look.

Rounding it off would be no problem, adding rubber edge trim would also work.

Just wasn't sure if this was a common thing amongst pontoon owners or if I'm just clumsy and no one else gets hurt on Boats with similar designs.

I'd chuck it in a vise and file/grind. Very simple fix that only involves your time. Save the $30+ to fill up the tank or buy water toys for the kids.
