shaft seals

i have a 2001 2 stroke johnson 50 hp<br />gear oil leaking out around seals from prop shaft i ordered the kit <br />took prop off removed washer removed cap that covers the seal area on the end of the bearing holder, then removed two tabs that appear to hold bearing unit in place. but still can not get the unit out <br /><br />any tips ??

Welcome Keith!<br /><br />On occasion, more often than not, the bearing carrier will need a little "persuasion". A slide hammer usually works for this. I put a nut on the slide hammer rod and try and catch an edge in the carrier or rib. If it's not stuck to bad, it will pop out pretty easily. If you got the two retainer tabs out, nothing else is holding it in cept gravity.
