I purchased 15 gal. of polyester resin (435 standard from U.S. Composites), and 1-1/2 oz chopped strand mat from them as well, I am doing a lay up over my new stringers which there are five of and roughly 50 ft. in length all together. What is the best way for me to do this, how many layers do I need typically for such a project, do I have enough material? What is the best way to treat the plywood before laying up glass over? Also what is the best way to fix a transom that has rotted plywood interior and damaged fiberglass on both sides. When I fix the transom is it better to fill it with foam or replace with new treated plywood?
Thanks for the previous posts, you guys have helped a lot in a little bit of time!

Re: Several questions on lay up and transom

sounds like you mat have purchasde your glass a little pre mature.

lets get caught up on where you area ta first...

pics will halp tremendously.....

the transom should be replaced first.....notice the replacement part.

th plywood needs to be dryed for at least a week....minimum a month if you use pressure treated wood.

the i.5 oz csm will be good for tabbing them and a first wrap....but you will need a cloth product for the wrap......1708 bi ax is the common one used on this forum....(availabel most specialty stores and very strong).

read th compleated projects forum......the hull extension in progress thread also has detailed photos and information on building a transom...making new strigers....and all you need to know on glassing

do the reading first.....then you will be confident of what to do and how to do it.

cheers
