Older Johnson and Evinrudes clear into the late 70s twins the stator bumps into a stop on top of the powerhead so I guess you would call it fixed but back in the day I knew a couple of guys that use to cheat the spark advance a few degrees by grinding the pad on the spark advance lever for a few extra degree can't say if the live to long after that, a 25 or 35 might but the early 40HP wouldn't stay together right from the factory, so I would not recommend it.
