Lonewolf,
I looked at www.chryslercrew.com. They have factory brouchers going back 1966. I seen yours is a CADET, only problem yours must have been repainted at sometime. The CADET's were white hull aqua blue(gree) deck from '66-'70. Or it could be older then '66. 1970 appears to be the last year for the CADET 'cause I didn't see the Cadet listed in '71. The CADET is a 14' long boat with a 62" beam. Load capacity is 802lbs. And rated for nomore than 40hp. Looks alot like the Mustang that ran from '65-'69 and it did come in jet black exterior and island red interioir for o/b's only. I have one of the mustang's and don't know the year. Got mine narrowed down to '66-'69. GOt to love the styling of the old lonestars.

Re: serial number of lonestar boat

hello deanryland., and hello to all. I'm brand new to this site, and have a 1965 Lonestar Malibu HIN 03414611. I'm assuming it is a 1965 model since it had a 1965 model 35 horse Mercury when I bought it back in 1994. the bottom end was out of it, so I bought a 1975 40 horse to get it back in the water quickly. any information would also be helpful to me, as I'm going on pure assumption when chatting about my boat. I also was told that Chrysler dropped the Lonestar name in 1967?? somebody else was chatting about the 1970 Lonestar boats? like I said, any history on Lonestar would help me a great deal. thank's to any whom want to chat about these boats. could you order any brand of motor at the time, to put on these boats. mine is a malibu runabout. I removed the windshield because it's to scuffed up to see out of. any way to polish the shield up a bit? replace? thank's; Gregory

Does your Malibu have short fins and a metal bow cap? If so, and your HIN starts with a zero, it is a 1960.

thank's for the heads-up OV1961. I don't understand much boat jargon, but my boat has the short side fins, and it's a runabout. I'm clueless about the metal bow cap. please advise. I posted a pic as my avatar. so, it sounds like my boat is a 1960. it's all cool with me as long as it's as water tight as the last time out in june of '98.

Post a pic of your bow where it comes to a point, and your "fins." Your avatar pic has the boat too far away and not great resolution. Also check out the Lone Star boat group on Yahoo!, there are brochure scans there to help you identify the year.

I'm back everyone! Sorry for the long time gone... I moved & my projects have been on hold for a while. Knotty1, I don't think it's actually a lone star, unless it's one of the dual-tagged ones (Chrysler/lonestar). Reason being the transom is integrated fiberglass, which wasn't brought in to the best of my knowledge till chrysler bought lonestar in '65. Then again, alot of folks seem to feel if it's a chrysler it is a lonestar.

Hey lonewolf, I looked at your pics and I'm sure yours is a '65 based on your s/n and comparing it to pics on the Yahoo Lone Star forum. Any new pics of progress?

Well, I've been off project for a while, just started back on it. I have made progress on my motor, but the boats out in the barn waiting still 8-( !!! I'm just trying to work out an attack strategy right now.LOL! So you're sure it's a '65? That's good, my truck's a '66 chevy, so that works out nicely!

Where did you find the serial number? I am now required by my county tax office to register my 14' Lone Star. Because it has been painted so many times I can't find a number. I bought it in 1970. Thanks for any help you can give me.

ws@gr3,
I am restoring an old Smokercraft Big Fisherman Lone Star 14' aluminum and I think that I found the serial number on a plate ~1/2"x3" located on the starboard side, top of the outside stern. If it is painted over, you may need to genetly sand to get to the plate. The numbers are not stamped in very deep.
I hoe that this helps,
Martin

Oh man, I wouldnt sand it though!! I dunno bout his, but the aluminum on my s/n plate is super soft!! I'd go for a tooth brush, or a dremel with a plastic brush bit, and a little paint thinner or straight acetone. Once the thickest of the paints gone, clean off the chemical and finish off the polish with toothpast. That's how I got to my s/n, and it was so worn, I'm still amazed that I even recovered it! Course, I took my plate off entirely so I could get to it with purposefull intensity!!LOL!

Re: serial number of lonestar boat

Mine has a s/n of 25421640. When someone figures out the decoding, do mine too, Please! It's a Biscayne. But, don't know what year, other than sometime between 1962 and 66 or 67, whenever Chrysler quit using the LoneStar emblem. It's got a white deck and yellow hull and I'm pretty sure it's original colors. Will post pics within the next couple of days.

Update: Here's the pics, after I pulled the old torn up carpet, leaves, etc. out of it. The seat pedestals are pretty shot and I think I'll replace them with new plastic ones.

Re: serial number of lonestar boat

As for decoding to the exact year, I haven't had any luck, & I've been trying for 2 years!! But I can tell ya that chrysler bought them and started putting their emblems & lonestars too from 65 to 68, maybe even a few yrs after that, so its gonna have to be in the late 60's at best, unless s/o just took off the lonestar taggs & left the chrysler. Those first few years they were putting both brand tags on the boats though, from all I've read.
