I can typically convert serial #'s into model year, but Mercury outboards seem to make it a little more difficult.

I have an older 90 HP 6 cylinder engine with serial # 6115092 and can't figure out the year.

Can someone steer me to a good reference document that explains thia #?

Thanks/Jerry

That's a great trick, but how did you get there. I have the same probem with an old 9.9 mercury. If you google Mercury and the model number, you get no results. How did you get to that page?

Post your engine serial number to see if someone can help you out as well.

start here:

then select engine group:

then scroll down until you reach the correct serial number range.

OR:
Use this handy chart here on iboats.

I've done that and I can look up parts and stuff, but I don't think I ever got an actual year of the motor. Thanks though and I'll try again.

On either website, all you have to do is look in the 4th or 5 column to see the year.
