I have a few soft spots in the floor of my rinker and am going to strip it out and replace it. I was thinking of separating the hull to get full access to it but was worried about the bow section. will the seating area and the dash side panels where you walk through just lift off or are they glassed down to the floor? thanks

Re: seperating hull of rinker v170 bowrider?

just got around to getting back here. I gutted the boat and removed all the flooring except for the section under the bow which is only about 7'' in past the step up to the bow.was originally going to lift the top off because I thought it went under a lot more hence the thread title but decided otherwise. going to work on getting that out this weekend but in the meantime I just finished up putting 2 good coats of resin on 3 sheets of 3/4 sheathing. I priced out the marine plywood and it was 108/sheet so I went a different route and used the sheathing. the resin is going to be the bottom side of the floor. going to try to get some pics up this weekend. the end result is to get the floor line-x liner just to make it easier to clean out after a day out. ill keep updating.thanks

Resin without glass is pretty much useless.

Wood is spot on....The resin alone will just crack..... and line x liner is for truck beds and has no place on the deck of a glass boat.....Just Sayin!

Since your removing your deck I would core sample your stringers and transom too for rot....boats rot from the bottom up in most cases....my boat had a few soft spots in the deck.....feel free to read some of my resto thread below to see what you might find as you dig deeper....

BTW Welcome to the Dry Dock :D

I guess I should amend my comment and state that if it is epoxy resin that you are using then it would be fine by itself. If it's poly then my statement stands.

ive done just poly resin on wood before and iyt didn't crack, mind you its not crazy thick. its just for the underside of the floor for a little protection.the top side is definatly getting matting on it. why you thinking no to the bedliner in the boat? im not a big fan of carpeting because the sands a pain to get out and the seadek says its got a 5-7 year life. I know the liner will outlast it and a lot easier to clean. we have a local line-x that does all our trucks at the dealership so theyre fairly priced. I appreciate the constructive criticism, thanks

It's your boat and you can do as you wish, just passin on what my experience and research has taught me over the years. Never used Truck Liner in a boat so Can't and won't speak to that. Others her on the forum seem to be against it due to peeling etc... but to each his own.

ya im thinking the peeling liner thing is the "do it yourself" roll on liners .i see them often on trucks at the shop and theyre all chalky and peeling from weathering.ive had a pop up camper roof done by the line-x people quite a few years ago and it still looks as good as when it was first done. as for the resin cracking, I had a look at my floor on the boat just now and there is thinner strips of wood on the top of the fibreglass supports where the original floor was nailed to and they have a thick coating of what looks like poly resin and theres no cracks on them and theyre still solid. I can see thick resin cracking from flex in the floor but im replacing the spray foam that was there before so the floor will stiffen up some. ill post pics tomorrow of my progress. gotta go see if I can get rid of the itch now from grinding the fibreglass today, lol.
