Pinion thrust washers are different diameters, and must be assembled in correct order.

Thank you I'll check to make sure I get them in order on reassembly
When I have it back together and turn the prop shaft by hand I notice a free turning portion and a tight portion in the revolution of a turn. Not so tight I can't turn the shaft just have to grip it tight to complete the revolution of the shaft. What might be causing this?

Mis-alignment I would say.-----It should turn freely both ways.-------And when you test with forward coil energized propshaft should turn clockwise with some drag.-----And lock up turning counterclockwise.

Thanks any ideas on what to check on what might be out of alignment.

Sorry----I can not see or feel your parts.----On a 57 year old motor there is no telling how many hands have had a go at fixing this simple ( to me ) unit.
