Re: Security Systems

Bruce, DSC is a Canadian company that have been around since the late 70s. I know a few of the guys that started the company as they came from other companies I dealt with at the time. They are now worldwide. I have used DSC products since their formation. I have always considered them the Chevy of the alarm industry, never great but is reliable and gets the job done. I have never had much faith in their motion sensors but they do sell a lot, mostly because of price. Stay far away....no run far away from their wireless products. They continuously have problems, get revamped, only to fail again.
So, the wireless sensors that are DSC compatible that I have heard are good are these:
MICRA-D | ION Security DSC Compatible Wireless Window Sensor | Home Security Store
Ever use those?

Home Security Store is where I usually buy my alarm products. They are local to me, seem to have good prices and will talk to you on the phone.

Re: Security Systems

WE have a monitored alarm system. We've had the system for six years now and I'm happy with the service. The alarm system is more for when the family isn't home. All of my friends and family know we are an armed family. The Admiral and I both have carry permits, and the first mate is a dead shot. Anyone who decides to be Mr or Mrs sticky fingers at our house better hope the cops get here before The Admiral or I show up. That is If the dog doesn't eat them alive first.:D Anyone who decides their life isn't worth much and tries to harm any of us has their choice on how they leave my house. In the back of a patrol car if their lucky, or in the coroners wagon on all the other days!

DSC Alexor is one to stay away from. Premature battery drain as well as other issues.

What if you use the Alexor main unit, not use their sensors and use aftermarket ones like the one in the link?

Re: Security Systems

when I lived in St Louis, the cop told me after my third break in the best deterrence is a dog; size doesn't matter. Next best thing is a sign in the yard - go have one made and make up a company name.

That said, my company bought LifeShield and i'm installing soon.

We do have a dog and she is all over any noises in or around the house she deems abnormal. Not sure what her criteria are LOL, but when she gets her fur up I go check it out. She is very protective of us and her territory. Frontpoint's equipment and monitoring are both very highly rated everywhere I've looked and they have the shortest contract. They also give you lots of signage/decals which is nice. Jeepman, the equipment does work with alarm.com.

Alexor main unit is the biggest problem. Keypad batteries tend to fail every 6 to 9 months.
Interlogix Simon XT is a much better unit and the transmitter units are rock solid.

Thanks for the advice. My Boss put in the Alexor which is why I was asking. He likes his but doesn't mean it will last.

Too bad the Interlogix Simon XT keypad/main unit is so freaking huge!
