Ok I am getting a little ahead of myself now but..... I am in the process of redoing my deck and I am thinking ahead as to how I will connect/secure the seats to the deck and I cannot for the life of me remember how the old ones were secured! Help! The other thing, I am fiber glassing some marine grade ply down, and my fiancee wants to put rug down in the boat. I have tried pitching all the other options gel coat, the paint for the garage floor, even rhino liner and she still wants rug. SO in my defeat  do I need any special adhesive for the rug to take to the glassed floor? Thanks

Re: Seats

Marine carpet adhesive and make sure it is marine carpet OR some people here have made carpets that use snaps and are removeable.....best of both worlds ;)

Re: Seats

I put marine carpet down in mine and I do like it. However, if I had it to do all over again I'd go with snaps. bear_69cuda did a really cool job with his deck, seen here, as he has the best of both worlds. Also, if you do decide to glue carpet down I found that using a large cheap paint brush worked much better than a trowel.

The snap in carpets are the way to go however to do it right you have to have the edges of the carpet bound othewise they will get frayed out pretty quick. Most of the larger carpet stores can do binding or know of someone who can. Problem is its pretty expensive to have done usually pay by the foot and the price per foot will vary depending on the carpet type and color/style of the binding material. That is up to you to decide though, if you do end up gluing down as stated use a good marine carpet and adhesive it will stick to the deck fine just follow instructions on pail. The brush idea isn't bad but would take a while to cover the whole deck where as a notched trowell will whip it out quickly and supply the right coverage. As far as the seats attaching I have only ever seen them screwed down with a good quality(stainless) wood screw and a fender washer, that would be for back to back types with a base that usually has spreaders under them that you screw through. If they are pedistal type seats I would want to have some reinforcement under the floor to screw into there is a lot of pressure on a pedistal and to just screw into 3/4" ply you will chance the seat coming loose in no time at all. Either way make sure you know exactly what is under your mounting locations so you don't puncture a fuel fill hose, tank, wire etc. Good Luck..

Re: Seats

When I did my ped seats, I drilled out the exitsing holes to proper size ti install BIG BRASS inserts. I used the ones from home depot and stainless bolts. When I screwed down the inserts, I used gorilla glue ( Supposed to be waterproof) to make sure they would stay in. There is no backing on mine, the sole is stock and they werent put in at the factory. So far I have had no problems and its been a year. As for the floor, do it how you want first, explaining it will make the flor better, then if she still wants carpet (like mine) you can do the snap in.

Re: Seats

I just mounted some seats and I used a 3/4 inch piece of plywood under my fiberglass deck for support. Then I took stainless steel T-Nuts and used a bolt and large socket over the hole to suck the T-Nuts up into the plywood. Reached under with some 5200 around the edges of the T-Nuts to be sure they were not going anywhere. Now I can thread my SS steel seat bolts into the T-Nuts to secure the seats without worrying about toggles or trying to reach under to hold a nut. It is no problem removing them and reinstalling the seat bolts at any time, the nuts stay put underneath.
