seat strut

I need to replace the strut on my front bow seat. Problem is I can't seem to find a replacement. I tried one from an auto parts store, but it took too much pressure to close, so I took it back. Then I tried the dealer, they ordered one, but it had the wrong ends. They proposed changing out my mounting brackets, which may be what I end up doing, but I'd like to research this some more.

Mine has "spade" type connectors, where the ends of the strut have about a 3/8" hole(s) that slide over a "pin" and are kept in place via a clip. The dealer could only find ones that fit a ball socket.

Any suggestions? Also, how do I know how much that seat weighs?

Re: seat strut

I tried a google, but don't know what to tell them. I guess I just got too much info.

If this helps the strut has a sticker on it from CMT Industries in Monticello, AR. There is a phone #, but it's no good and I didn't find them via google. I'll try yellow pages. It says Part # CMT-GS-2-20.

Some other numbers on the strut itself say "FT40" and "029 6"

Based off of the part # I'm guess it's a 20lb strut, but want to make sure.

I'll google it some more. I was even hoping Iboats would have them, but I can't find where to look in the Marine Store.
