I have a 1974 Sea Ray Weekender and I am changing the seats. I had side mounted seats and I bought floor mounting seats. They are the above floor mounts. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of bolts to use to mount them with? Any info will be helpful, Thanks.

Crab has been watch my progress to close. :) Thats the way I am doing mine but dind not need the big piece of wood just enough to get a T-Nut under so there was no screws into the floor. That was my main concern.

Re: seat mounting

I do it about the same ,except I put the floor base of the seat on a piece of EXT. AC ply, mark for the bolt holes, then take a 1" by 2" scrap of wood and draw the cut out circle 1" larger all around the base. Cut the circle and drill the bolt holes. Using carriage bolts. I run them up from the bottom side of the board, thru the base plate, tighten the nuts to suck the bolt heads flush on the underside. Put hacksaw marks on all the excess thread of the bolts. Take bolts out. Cut excess off. Mixup a little epoxy, coat the bottom of the board only, then finish sides and top. One at a time coat each bolt head and the depth of the threads in the wood. Put bolts in board and assemble it. Epoxy the wood base to the deck. That way you can remove seat and base to do repairs.

Re: seat mounting

Tengals what carpet? Just kidding an working on the electrics. Had me so darn stumped today. I went to go and raise the motor and it did not work nor did anything else that worked yesterday!

Finally found the little bugger it was a tiny circuit breaker.

Now back to the carpet. I will be laying the carpet over the bases. I will make small incisions to get the bolt into the Nut. I can find them with a magnet. They are zinc coated steel but are pretty well sealed to the deck and wood with epoxy. I will also dab some boat life sealer on the bolts before inserting. I cut a 45 on those bases so the carpet would lay flatter.

Bugger!!!!
I cut my bases to small. I shall re cut 1/2 inch wider so that I can do the same. I don't want a visible rise in the carpet, around the pedistal base.

cheers

Much to my surprise and delight the edistal mounts do not show up and you can hardly tell they are not directly mounted to floor.

The mound was cut at a 45 degree angle and glued directly to the floor with 6 T-nuts installed. I had to cut the carpet under the Bases to find the nuts but it worked out better than I had hoped!

I cut my bases to small.
Thats why I used the washer method. I took the big washers I am using for the bolts in these bases. Put the bottom of the pedastal on teh wood and a pencil into the hole in the washer and run it around the base. Instantly you get the washer width from base. The washer are 2" across and the inside to outside is about 1/2".
