I have this 5-horsepower outboard motor that came on a 14-foot aluminum boat I bought. I could be wrong, but I assume it is a Sears engine, but I do not know what year or anything about it. Does anyone know much about these and any additional information?

Looks like half the cowling is cut away. I had one similar many years ago and it was basically an air cooled weed eater type engine.

That makes much more sense as to why I couldn't find a picture of a similar engine! I still have not seen a 5 horsepower anywhere though, only 3.5's and 7.5's. Thank you!

I don't know much about it, but I suspect that if you cut away the cowling on an air cooled engine ii would overheat..

I can’t tell to be sure. I zoomed in. It looks like it’s there but not 100%. For sure even with the outside hood cut away, the techumseh blower housing would remain unless it was discarded as well

It's a Sears motor and the lower cowl is gone. It should still have a plate on the frame that has the model number. Post that and we'll help you.

If the plate is missing, it's a good bet that it was stolen.

Regardless, those motors last a long time. With the amount of rust present in the pictures, it's probably not serviceable now.
