Search Info F115

This is my first post and I will probably end up looking like a fool.

I am trying to see if there is any way to "Drain" the oil in my F115 with a MFG date of 11-09, as I am approaching the 20 hour mark. I am also interested in other areas that should be checked, besides what is listed in the owners manual.

I have tried putting "oil change F115" in the search engine and I get lots of info on the F115, but so far nothing on the draining/changing of oil from the F115 or even info on oil changes on the F115.

I would prefer NOT to use a suction device to change the oil. Draining is preferable.

Clearly I am doing something wrong with the search engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to ask questions that have already been addressed. I have lots more questions and would like to be able to use the search facility with good results.

Also looking for a good source for the maint manual for the F115.

Thanks for taking to time to read this!

Re: Search Info F115

best method is using a vacum extraction type device and sucking it out the dip stick hole.
that way you dont get to post about stripped drain bolt threads.
best service manual is the F115 manual yamaha has.

Re: Search Info F115

Thanks for the input rodbolt. Is the problem with the stripped drain bolt a yamaha problem or is it a heavy handed user problem?

Also what is the proper way to get usable output from the search.

Thanks again

Stripped threads are from as you described them "heavy-handed users".

Click on this link and input your appropriate engine info and you can look at your owners manual on-line.

Here is another link for download of Service Manual... Only goes to Year 2006, sorry about that... maybe in future they will have your year model, but probably not much difference in oil change procedure.

Re: Search Info F115

mostly heavy hands on aluminimum and cross threading cause it terribly messy to use the drain.
sucking it out is way faster and less mess.

Re: Search Info F115

Thanks for the info shipmate......I am anal and it just bothers me that I am sucking and not draining. <grin>

I don't know if yamaha keeps pools of oil around the cams (to protect cams during cold starts) as some of their MC do. I did find in the owners manual that the Capacity, w/ filter was 4.76 us qts. But oil change, w/filter, was 3.91 qts. That means we are leaving ~ 25 oz's of oil somewhere in the engine, and that was what I found troubling.

But I will take your word and use the suction method and maybe change it more frequently, because I am concerned about the 4 stroke oil dilution problem. I have a 18 1/2' Scout boat and on many days I can not run wide open because of conditions. In fact more times than not I am unable to run WOT, or much above 34-4000rpm (18-26mph) in the Chesapeake Bay. The boat runs 43mph+ WOT and that is hauling in SW for such a small boat.

You are clearly a quality individual that is willing to share your knowledge with the folks on this forum. In my forum reading prior to asking questions, it seems your name shows up more than anyone else.

I really appreciate your time helping others and myself with your vast knowledge.

Thanks and have a great day shipmate!

Re: Search Info F115

Hey W4ARF..

My current boat is a G3 Eagle 180 with a Yammy F115 on it and I saw that you have a Scout. My last boat was a Scout 192 Sportfish side console.... I liked the boat and used it for Salt and Fresh water fishing, but got out of Salt fishing and other reasons got rid of it and was boatless for 5 years until I picked up this G3.

I too am concerned about oil dilution and will change it more often and I actually keep a very close eye on the oil level on the dipstick.. I actually measure it with a very accurate forms ruler I have before and after each outing... I know.. I'm anal!!!

Also, my son lives in Chesapeake and is stationed at Oceana. I am planning on a trip there in November... as he has promised me some really good Striper fishing.

Lastly, I too read this forum quite a bit as Rodbolt shares tons of info from his vast knowledge and experience... I do appreciate his posts.

Take care and good luck..

Re: Search Info F115

Hello Eagle,

Yes I like my Scout 187SF alot.....I too fish both SW and Fresh water. I am waiting for my 24v 80lb thrust trolling motor to arrive. I am getting a SW TM and it has built in GPS. I can electronically anchor with it. It will hold the boat close within a 10-20ft box, regardless of seas wind.

It is a MinnKota Riptide ST 80 I-pilot TM. It will also be great in the salt water as I can hover right over channel drop off's....hot spots etc without anchoring.

I don't think I would even consider changing boats, even if I no longer fished SW. The Scout has so much room, storage and takes the rough water very well.....Also it is built like a tank.....Very high quality boat that does a nice job in FW also.

I also live in Chesapeake down near the NC border (HW-17 about 6 miles for the border).....kinda in the country.

I have NOT had the making oil problem yet. I did the first 10 hours on smooth water and it got plenty of WOT time. But I am worried about SW usage when I can only run at slower speeds for all day fishing. So for no problems encountered. The F115 motor has been wonderful...probably too much power for the boat, but it seems to make gas rather than use it.....In my last 4 outings I have used less than 20 gals of gas. The scout yamaha/performance test shows it getting about 6 MPG at 3500-4500 RPM.....Which is amazing compared to what my past outboard engines have used.

I launch out of the Little Creek military base...real close the the bay bridge tunnel. Because your son is active duty he can also launch out of Little Creek Marina. I retired from the navy about 21 years ago after 27yrs service.

I hope you have great luck stripper fishing!!
