I have a 1985 Sea Ray Seville, 19 ft. with an open bow. The engine is a 140 hp Mercruiser. I just spent the day cleaning her up...here are some pics. As you can tell, she's in really good shape for an almost 30 year old boat!image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Yours looks good, be sure to start a thread for her if you need or start some work. Make sure to check the stringers and transom though, Don't let the rest of the boat fool you into thinking its all good. Your interior looks as if the boat has either been garage kept or the interior was re-done recently.

Chris,

It has been inside a barn the last two years. Before that, it had been kept outside for a few years and prior to that, it was always layed up over the winter inside. I have always taken pretty good care of it over the years. I haven't been out on it for ten years but some friends used it two years ago and they said it ran great. Currently it needs a starter and battery. Most of the interior as well as the carpet is original. I had a hard boot cover custom made in the mid 90s because the original snapped off and was lost while trailering it uncovered. You make a good point, I never thought about the stringers and transom! Now I am worried. I guess I better put the starter and other minor fixes on hold until I have the stringers and transom thoroughly checked out. Ugh! Thanks for the tip!

Re: Searay

Testing them isn't hard or expensive. Just drill small holes (like 3/8") and look at what comes out then seal back up with some 5200. But if its sat up covered and indoors you should be fine as long as water wasn't standing in the bottom. I would do the minor stuff and test things while you're there. That how I have been doing mine. Checked my stringers and transom while I did my new starter and dual battery conversion.

Nice boat. I would have guessed the carpet was replaced at some point because it looks so nice still. How long did you say you've owned it? We've still got our 84 my dad bought from the boat show in 84. It's amazing how it just takes the smallest bit of appropriate storage and care and these things hardly look like they've been used all these years later.

I bought the boat used in 1988. It was three years old. The carpet is original and looks almost new in most areas. I used to be a nut where I would wipe down the entire boat, wash, wax and vacuum it after each outing. Then I got married and had kids and it just took a backseat to my life.

I had a neighbor look at it yesterday and he said he didn't see any rot or anything suspect when we were under the engine cover looking at the transom. He kept remarking that it was very clean down there. He said my boat is in better shape than his boat and his boat is ten years newer.

I am trying to find the part number for the starter. I called a local shop and they gave me a price of $260. I think I can find one on the Internet cheaper but I have to find the number. Also, I'd like to get a better cover. The one on it came from Menards and is not tight. I had a cover custom made but it got completely weathered and torn from sitting over the years.

Any suggestions on a good online store to find a starter and cover?

Well since you know its history, I wouldn't expect any rot unless you knew it was leaking and not quickly corrected or sat improperly stored where water couldn't escape. For us it was simple. No shoes in the boat ever and it never, ever sat exposed to sun or elements if it wasn't being used but got many years of heavy usage. It's almost shocking to pull the tarp off and see a new looking, original interior on an 84. The only noticeable wear on it was when I used armorall on the Dino steering wheel many years back which somehow damaged it and turned it a chalky white. The exterior however has seen is share of use as my sister is incompetent and my dad too trusting.
