Have a BF75S 7.5 Honda outboard, Blue with white, Mid eighties is the Manufacturing date. It is a carburetted engine belt driven overhead cam. Twin cylinder. very few hours of running and runs like a top. I have not used it for two years, and planned to use it last weekend the end of Nov. The engine is very well mantained and stored in best conditions and place . I ran the engine before in a water bucket, started 2nd try, runs like a top, water is circulating . Noticed one thing, the oil light should be on when running, I saw this flicker a couple of times, did not think much of it.
Went to the river, let my daughter go up river, ran for about 5 min and died. I took over started first time, ran it up river, 5 min and felt like it was seizxing up. Turned engine off immediately. % min break, started right up, now will not take my eye of the water or oil light, rna for five min, oil light went out, water Ok, turned engine off. % min break, started right up, 5 min running light went out again. Opened cover checked oil level. Oil level still perfectly dead on, some smoke from oil cap. Oil looks good nto contaminated. Still runs like a top, am afraid I have done some damage, but cannot hear any abnormal engine noises yet. Any clue to what might be happening ???? I am in the process of buy a repair manual, I am a mechanic myself, but do not know the oil pump set up or pick up screen, or amybe any oil rings that are deteriorated and sucking up air. Any help is appreciated, as soon as I have time I will pup the power head out. Th engine is in excellent condition, except for what happened now, engine never been apart yet. Always used in fresh water.
