Anyone have any advice on repairing a slow leak on a seam? It's an Avon hypalon. The leak is slow, at the seam down in by the floor boards. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Seam repair

Is there a hole worn through the seam or is the seam itself leaking? If it's a hole, repair like you would any other hole. If air is leaking from behind the seam, it's much more labor intensive. The seam strip needs to come off. Clean off all the old glue. Buff the area and apply a new seam strip. You can get the materials and instructions on how to do this here>> www.nrsweb.com

Do to the difficulty of a seam repair, you might want to use inflatable boat sealant instead.

Re: Seam repair

Thanks for the feed back. The air is coming from under the seam, not worn. It is a slow leak but seems to be getting a little worse. Do you think I could patch over the seam on to the tube? It is down by the floor so it is in a difficult area to get at.
Thanks again.

Re: Seam repair

Patching over a seam is like patching over an existing patch on a tire. It may work, but it's not a good idea. Keep in mind that your exterior seam tape is only covering the interior lapped material seam. IE Your leak is interior and that exterior taped seam is only the last barrier(Its primarily aesthetic and is not designed to be the primary barrier).
