Seal between doghouse and transom cap

Hi friends,

My buddy and I are in the process of rebuilding a '76 starcraft located here: https://forums.iboats.com/forum/boa...7-76-holiday-i-o-18-fishing-rebuild-pic-heavy

We're stuck on how to seal the gap between the doghouse and the transom cap bowmost support.

Right now, we're thinking of adding gasket material to the dog house, and then using a clamp like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Amarine-made...id=1518566656&sr=1-1&keywords=90+degree+latch

The latch would pull the doghouse against the grey transom cap support. This *should* keep the majority of rain water from dripping on the engine.

Has anyone found a better solution?

Thanks,
-John

Run a piece of weather stripping from a car door there. Once the doghouse is pushed against it nothing will get through.

That makes sense.

Are most people using latches to hold the doghouse to the transom cap?

Or L bracket aluminum screwed into the deck to prevent the doghouse from sliding?

I used an adjustable latch to keep my dog house closed. The adjustable part makes it easy to get enough pressure to seal the dog house. I wouldn't worry about making it water tight on top, unless it would drip on eletrical. Figure out a way so the latch(es) are not on top of the dog house as they would be begging to snag something.

You can hinge the front side, so the dog house tips forward.

Yeah that's where we're slightly confused is how to attach them.

Do you have your latch in the same plane or at a 90 degree angle from each other?

If you have a pic that'd be swell ;)

Looked... I don't have a pic of my doghouse. It's different though, split in half, top half hinges up at transom, with the latch on the front (pretty much dead center on the front). I'd have the latch pull straight, same plane, so it doesn't bend the smaller clip part. A little piece of aluminum angle might solve the issue, so the latch pulls straight, towards the transom.

That's a brilliant solution using a piece of angled aluminum.

We'll give that a shot! With 3 through rivets and a layer of 4200 behind the angled aluminum, I doubt the dog house latch would pull it off the transom cap support!

such a good idea!
