Re: SEAGULL ENGINE

My info only goes to 72 but:
In my book WSPC indicates a Century model.
4,5 or 6 1/2 hp.
I dont have enough info to pinpoint year or hp. but
the 4 uses a 9 inch prop.,the 5 uses a 11 inch.
and Seagulls use 4 and 5 blade props.
They are a primative design that is meant to efficiently push a heavy load at displacement speeds. Fuel mix up to 72 is 10:1 3/4 pt to 1 gallon of gas. D21 champion plug at .020 gap.
point gap at .020.fixed timimg.
All these specs are based on 72 or older motors.

Re: SEAGULL ENGINE

There are 2 websites with alot of British Seagull information: 1. SavingOldSeagulls.com, and 2.BritishSeagullShop.com. These websites in addition to their own info have more links to additional sources of information. I have a British Seagull Model 110 with a 9inch 4blade prop and FNR gearbox, short shaft. This motor will push my little 12ft aluminum jonboat at about 9mph. These engines are geared very low for maximum thrust amd will push a heavy load. but they are no good for planing hulls. Fascinating engines with a lengthy and colorful history and some are quite valuable as collectors items as well as being sought after as sailboat auxilaries. Good luck!

Re: SEAGULL ENGINE

This is great - first place I have found with informed knowledge of seagulls. When I was at school we had one on our safety boat in Dover Harbour for the sailing club. Pretty good little beast, just kept chugging along whatever the weather and conditions. I picked one up at auction a few years back and we have just unpacked it. SN: SJP 494 R8 which I think makes it a Forty Plus, built in 1956. Not sure what the R8 means though. Any ideas Ross J?

Can't wait to get it going - my son and his girlfriend want to use it on their 14' canoe - should fly! LOL
