Re: Seadoo Bombarder-ignition issue help

Yes, the owner stated that the ski is a 97' Sea Doo, Bambarder, GTI, and has a 720cc engine. There is no power trim on this model. I'm assuming that a power trim would have a button on the steering for that.

Is there a way to test the rectifier with a basic meter? As well as the stator?

ok a gti doesn't have trim, I would still suspect the stator or the rectifier.. undo the yellow wires and see if it starts and runs,, if it runs,, either the stator has a short or the rectifier is bad.

Jeff,
I conducted the test, by pulling the two, yellow/black, and yellow wires out. I checked/replaced any blown '15' fuses. Plugged the key in and hit the button. IT CRANKED OVER!! Your diagonisis was spot on! Rectifier or stator should be the culprit..?

Looks like both type yellow wires go in the flywheel box from the top. Any way to test which of these it could be?

On another sad note, when I hooked up the hose the the rear fitting, after the hose was on I heard an unusual sound while cranking: Ca..chunk, Ca..chunk, Ca..chunk... Pulled the plugs out, hit the button and I got an ''''impressive''' aqua show out of the two cylinders...?? Did I screw in the hose in the wrong place (upper left spout to the thrust area) and fill up the engine? Head gasket blown...which led to the fouling plugs,... which led to the rectifier/stator adn fuse poping? very strange to me..., these skiis,--Stick to the old v-bottom offshore race boat!

wow, I've learned a bunch, I'm gonna need your thoughts on this. :D

now you did it,, you can never run the water with the engine off,, you forced water in to the crank case,, you must get it all out by cranking the engine with the plugs out or you will rust up the cylinders and the crank bearings. as for the stator there is a test with a volt meter you can run but I don't remember the values off the top of my head,, I would check for a dead short to ground on both of the yellow wires and if it isn't grounding out then it is probably the rectifier.

I appreaciate it. I will check it both wires are grounded. Should I check for continuity (complete circuit to ground)?

Should have I started the engine first, then turned on the hose, or not the hose at all? I treated it like running an outboard out of water...or so I thought. After that episode, I sprayed both cylinders with liq. wrench penetrant, the 'green can' to prevent the rusting.

never have the water on if the engine is not running.

Re: Seadoo Bombarder-ignition issue help

So, what your saying is that as soon as the engine hits, and an idle is obtained then turn the hose on?

On a good note, after much vacuming and cranking, I think I managed to get most, if not all, the water out. There is spark seen on the plugs and got to start and run a bit. There was water spiriting and spraying out the exhaust, which I'd expect--blowing out. I'm a little water shy after that whole ordeal and don't want to go through that again!! """Are you sure that when it starts, I can turn the hose on, connected to the back transome fitting?

Also, it is safe to rule out the stator and blame the rectifier at this point?
Thanks,

~R~
