I have recently moved to Cape Coral Florida on the water. I would like to bring my boat down. 1989 Sea Ray Sundance 268. I drive an2018 Ford Expedition Platinum Max and a Blue Ox Stabilizer for a 34 ft camper. Will this be sufficient to tow down dry. Of course I would take my time? Any suggestions/experiences towing long haul. I would appreciate.

How far is the drive? Are you goin to use the wd hitch for the boat as well? I ask those questions, but I would probably hook it up to the vehicle and see how much it squatted. Then I would tow it at 55 to my current place.

looked up both specs, you need a bigger vehicle.

dry weight on the boat is 4500. with any gear, fuel, etc (99 gallon fuel tank, 30 gallon water tank, lets say 5000# however if your tanks are full, your closer to 6000#

trailer will be 1300# minimum, most likely a 1500#

towing capacity on the expedition is 6000#

you would be over-weight

you dont say where you are towing from.

I wouldn't try the WDH on the boat trailer if it has surge brakes. WDHs have a tendency to prevent surge brakes from working very well. And, with a load like that you will need all the braking help you can get.

9000-9300# is an option. With the Heavy duty tow package which is 3.73 ratio diffs, rear locking diff, larger radiator, trans cooler, and brake controller. It is a custom order option not normally spec'd by dealers.

The standard towing package for the 3.23 and 3.42 ratios axle ratios are the 5900-6000# rating

I've driven some sketchy vehicles with problems but I wouldn't risk that adventure.

If the numbers scott is saying are correct - which I assume so - then you are in for a hell of a ride if you try and tow that. I would look at getting rid of the ford and replacing it with a half ton if you plan to tow often. If it is a single trip and never again then I would pay someone to do it for you.

Towed 10k from Atlanta to Charlotte with a 2011 expedition, smaller gear ratio. Easy peazy. Wouldn't go higher than that, but did it flawlessly.
