are you sure the boat isn't a sea ray and the engines is just a mercury? I have never heard of a sea ray engine, just a boat... do you have any pics? ;)

SeaRay did take Mercury outboards and paint them white and take off the Mercury name and replace it with the Sea Ray name for a few years. It is a Mercury outboard though.

criag

Pull the cowling off and you will find a block plug on one of the heads with the serial number stamped into it. Serial numbers are generally something like 0D234890 but on some early models the initial 0 was left off so it would read D234890. Just add a 0 to your serial number if a letter is at the start.

Re: Sea Ray = Mercury ???

As I said in a post yesterday, I have seen Sea Ray engines on Sea Ray boats at boatshows. Sea Ray is a division of Brunswick (as I recall) and Mercury is also. So, for your Cadillac boats, you put a Cadillac looking engine on it (but really it's a chevy....naw just kidding). What was it, in the mid '70's, GM was putting Chevy engines in Olds and other higher up cars. Consumers got real mad about that.....wanted an Olds engine in their Olds.....if they had wanted a Chev, they would have bought a Chev.

Mark
