Hi there

I just close a good deal on a Laguna 21. This boat has no motor. Do you have any suggest for the best solution to repower this boat ?
I have the chance for a 150 FICHT RAM 2001. Is anybody familiar with this kind of Boat/motor performances ?
Consider the boat has equipped with an alluminum T-top, so probably is going to loose some knots in speed... probably
Also please give me some advice about this boat .... Bad , Good ??
As I told you, I had a really good deal on it .. so .. for me worth the money anyway ... :):)

Thanks

FICHT is probably the last option to consider. A traditional two stroke would probably serve you better. Ohterwise a four stroke of any brand would be good to.

Stay away from the FICHT.These motors had problems that were suposedly solved but not for me if I was buying.
Look very seriously at the Evinrude Etec.May be hard to find used but worth the look.As far as the Horse power should be at least 3/4 of the rating on the boat.If you buy a new Etec there is no maintenance for 3 years or 300 hours.
Simple home winterizing.

There is a very good reason the motor is selling for a good deal. Buy an E-Tec. It's the old saying you can pay now or pay later. The FICHT will have you in the service area more than you'll be fishing.

As is typical with Sea Ray, it is a well built boat that you will enjoy for years. I would either go E-tec or Yamaha 4-stroke 150/200. The Yamaha can be picked up reasonably priced used, but the E-tec is hard to find. If you can afford new, I would go E-tec. If you are looking on the cheap, I would go with an older 2-stroke Johnson or Yamaha. Good luck and enjoy!

Re: Sea Ray Laguna 21

First congrats on buying your Laguna. I have the Laguna 20 (21'11" OAL) and love it.

Mine came with factory T top and twin offshore bait tanks on the rear. It was fatory with a Blackmax 175. Ran 40+ miles an hour, sucked the gas. Repowered with 2001 Merc 150 Classic (all I could afford). The 150 pushes the boat well with wide open just shy of 40mph. If I could afford it, I would have prefered a 175 or even 200.

I also owned a 2002 Fict motor and loved it (another boat). NO problems and pretty darn good mileage. I'd buy another one if the price was right. If you are like me and can not afford an ETEC, look into a used Optimax 150 or Yamaha HPDI.

Also the Laguna's had a history of bad transoms. Check for stress cracks or worse before installing the new motor. That's why I was conserned about going four stroke with the added weight.

Hope this helps.
