I know I am going to catch hell for this, but has anyone else ever disconnected the alarm under the dash. I have a 1994 Sea Ray 180 with a 5.0 and got tired of hearing the alarm going off. I was thinking what did they use before they installed alarms. Any reason why I just can't keep an eye on my gear oil tank reading and motor oil?

Before I would disconnect them completely, why not put a lighted toggle switch in the wire so you can shut it off while starting, yet you would still have the alarms while running.

The 2 seconds it takes my Ray from key on to full oil pressure, it doesn't annoy me to the point where I'd risk my leg or engine piling up...I redid a guys leg because he "kept an eye on things' and had no alarm. he was out fishing and on the way back, he lost his gear lube. he hooked the alarm back up...

you should be keeping an eye on those items anyways, along with engine temp

the real question is, why is the alarm going off??

or are you just annoyed upon startup?? the reason the alarm sounds on startup is to let the operator know the audible alarm works

yes, people do disconnect the alarm under the dash, the only people they catch hell from is their spouse, when the repair bill gets paid

I know I am going to catch hell for this, ...

You got that bit right!

Let me ask you a question, or 2.

Would you drive your car around without insurance? Do you leave guns around the house loaded and with the safety off? If you answer 'No' to either of these questions.... then leave the damn alarm connected!!!!
