Re: scum line

From my experience the easiest way is to sponge it off AS SOON as it's out of the water. I can clean my 14' jonboat in about 15 minutes with plain old water.
If it's a dried scum line, then you'll have to use a hull cleaner. "On & Off" works really well, but you can buy the same stuff (oxalic acid) much cheaper as toilet bowl cleaner. No scrubbing is required but you have to use rubber gloves and eye protection. Keep it off the trailer, too.

me too... i used to wipe it off right after i'd pull it out at the ramp. but got tired of filthy dirty towels + just smearing the filth around.... now i just wash it off at home with the hose. i usually have to take a brush to it or sponge. soapy water works best... best if i do it sooner than later..... longer it sits with slime on it. the harder it is to get off... usually next day for me.....

Re: scum line

I took my boat out for the first time in the ocean over the weekend, after having it out 10+ times in freshwater. I freaked out when I pulled it out, there was a 3 inch line of scum all the way around the boat. Since I wiped it off with a towel immediately it wasn't too hard. I did miss a spot though and when I got back to the house it was dried. It took quite a bit of elbow grease to get it off....

I carry a spray bottle of water and white vinegar (about 3/4 water).

It is a great scum remover especially on a black lower unit.

Pressure washer, something in the 2000psi range. Handles Ohio River scum just fine, which is probably the scummiest of all scums!
