Hello everyone
After repainting my little 3012 early this year, it looks gorgeous by the way, I reassembled the thing and took it out on the water. When I got her running there was a terrible steel on steel screeching, grinding sound issuing from the top of the motor. If I pulled on the starter handle a bit it would stop, but when my motion ceased, the screeching would return. I immediately killed the motor and removed the starter recoil assembly.
Two of the three springs were missing and thought that I had found the problem. I ordered replacements (fifty bucks, shipped) and after installing them took the motor back out and again, the same issue as soon as the motor started. It is a pain to carry a length of cord in my pocket and dangerous to run the motor without the recoil assembly afixed to the top of the gas tank. So, it sits and I bank fish.
I have checked the recoil and there is only a quarter turn left in the thing. I oiled the retention screws and cleaned and oiled the flywheel engage tabs in hopes that it was a bit of grime to no avail. I am at a loss as to what I need to loosen/tighten in order to troubleshoot further.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Happy Mother's Day to all!
