I just purchased a 1960 hall craft,Hull is in great shape however the V-drive has a high pitch scream,what could it be the alinement or mabey the oil,it looks and smells like ATF fluid is that right.

My xmission (Borg-Warner Velvet) uses ATF but my Walter V-Drive uses 30W oil. Not much that can be done to mine in the boat, it sounds like a bearing has died. Maybe its got ATF where it should have got oil? (ouch!)

are you hearing this scream while boat is out of the water in gear?

it makes no diferance if its in or out of the water,I hook up the hose to the water pump and it makes the loop through the V drive to cool.
