Scratch Repair?

We have a couple scratches alongside the upper port hull of our boat. They are all the way through the outer layers of (blue) color, down to the (white) glass. They are more like thin gouges, really, but the contrast makes them stand out a lot. The widest point is probably less than 1/8" wide, but still, what is the recommended way to restore the aesthetic appearance of those areas?

Re: Scratch Repair?

Take it to a fiberglass repair shop, they will have to fill it and depend on how long it is they will repaint a large area to match the color with the rest of the boat. Unless you have much experience fixing fiberglass, I wouldn't do it myself. Save yourself the trouble and lets the pro do it. I have a blue boat and I gouged the crap out the back end of it too.

If the scratch is not too deep I would suggest you try matching gelcoat color. If you can get the correct color.
I would sand it a bit wider.
I would mix some milled glass fibers and cabosil and put that into the scratch. Then after that has dried
I would sand it again then repair the gelcoat.
Make sure you wax the gel or cover it with PVA to get it to harden. Sand then polish it to match.
