A few weeks ago I was camping and rather then trailoring and launching everyday, I "beached" the boat near our camp site. However, our camp site was out towards the middle of the lake and the boat was pushed back and forth in the sand. When I pulled it out, I noticed the bottom of the boat had numerous gouges from the pebbles in the sand. They are not deep but something I need to get fixed (I also think it messed up my depth finder). I've never done hull repair before and it looks like the best method to go about this is to utilize a gel coat which will fill in the scrapes. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Am I working off the correct premise?

Yeah, I think you are on the right track. You could consider a keel saver or keel shield as well, but what you are considering is the proper way to go (I need to get me some a 'dat too). I am going to move this over to the restoration forum though. Those guys are magicians when it comes to gel coat and hull repairs ;) Welcome aboard!
