Scraped my outdrive on the ramp, did i damage it

I dont think i am the first person or the last to scrape an outdrive on the ramp. I am used to having an outboard and it is easier to notice, visually, when the engine is down. Anyways, i dragged my outdrive about 5 ft up the ramp when i pulled my boat out, there is no real damage to speak of on the skeg, but i am wondering about the rest of the drive unit, hydraulics, bearings anything else that could have been damaged. it seems to have a little play up and down, i dont know if it was there before or not. any advice on what sort of potential problems i could have cause would be great. Thanks

There are 2 kinds of I/O trailer boaters; those who WILL drag their skeg on the ramp, and those who HAVE dragged their skeg on the ramp. Welcome to the club.

A tiny bit of play is (more or less) normal. It was probably there before. If it makes you feel better, have the drive pulled/inspected/serviced as this should be done about every 100 hours anyway, but it isn't likely you did any damage to anything but your pride.

The skeg will usually break off before to much bad happens.

I don't know if this is just with my boat and trailer, but if I use the trim up button till it stops it is up high enough to not hit the ramp any. Once it is on the trailer I hit the other up button which raises it the rest of the way up.

That pretty much sums up the typical and expected procedure.

If you have more skeg left than this... You don't have anything to worry about...

my boat only has 1 trim switch, if you push it the motor goes up about half way, then push it harder the motor goes up the rest of the way, i just forgot all together.

Sounds like you have one of the new Commander 4000 control boxes... (and yes, it caught me the first time I saw one. Spent hours looking for the TRAILER switch :facepalm
