Little to do about nothing.

This has NOTHING to do with Valerie Plame.

There is nothing illegal.

ALL administrations have done it.

Judith Miller found nothing interesting to her and did not even reprint any of the "leaked" info.

Just another blatant attempt by the media (and HM)to embarrass the President and mis-lead (should I say troll) the public.

How is it a charade? The media just reported what was in the court papers filed by prosecutors. And, if you are implying that this is not a big deal, you are totally wrong. Whether the O.K. came from Cheney or from Bush through Cheney, it doesn’t matter much. Those two are the two most powerful people in America and when one of them leaks what was, up to the point that they released it, classified material for political gain, that is a huge deal and the media does not need to hype it.

The material that was leaked was selective. What was leaked from the NIE document only backed up the Administration, what was left out of the leak was all the info that disputed a lot of the claims of Administration.

KaGee – This is much ado about MUCH! You are right that Bush can declassify material. That really isn’t the point, it is how it was done. If he what to declassify the NIE document, why didn’t he just release it? Instead, he had (if what Libby said is true) Cheney have Libby leak out selective parts of the document for political purposes only.

If you really can’t see that, you definitely are a Kool-Aid drinker!
:p

gaft, you don't really believe W knew, he has not known anything else for 6 years why would Cheney tell him about this. Heck, W thinks the war is over remember he announced it a while back.

A thought to remember is the documents filed are a result of information gained thru Grand Jury testimony, not something dreamed up last week by the prosecution. Libby testified to this way back when the investigation began.

"If he what to declassify the NIE document, why didn’t he just release it?"

Ummmm, I believe he did. ;)

You are truly naive if you seriously think this is a a big deal. Selective Leaks for political purposes are a part of present day politics. Your hero, King Bill, did it constantly. He was great at floating out "trial balloons" via a "leak" to the press.

The only argument that I am willing to partially stipulate, is that of hypocrisy. Bush has had a hard stance on leaking since day one. I say partially only because, if I'm President and I want to selectively leak something, that's my decision, my business, and I'll do it if and when I want to. If you however, work for me, and you leak, without my permission or knowledge, that is intolerable. Hypocritical? By strict definition, yes. In application, no.

You have to open your mind beyond what your professors have to say. ;)

Re: Scooter Spills The Beans!

My concern is the leak of the fact that Valerie Plame was a covert CIA Officer. That effectively made her unusable in that responsibility.

Presidents have routinely declassified and had "leaked" information that contradicted some limelight-seeker for years. Leaking of the NIE exerpts is therefore a routine exercise of that tradition.

Leaking the name of a secret government official is not in that tradition and could well have endangered Ms. Plame's life. Her name was not in the NIE document exerpts Libby claims he was authorised to leak.

It is not clear whether Libby claims that he was authorised to release her name, but it is clear that the President doesn't think he was, or that the President and the Vice president lied about it.

That's what I want to know. Of course it would be nothing new for a President to look into the camera and say, "I am not a crook", or "I did not have. . . .", but if my President authorized the identification of a covert operative and then lied about it I would be sorely offended.

Typical Liberal Logic. You cannot debate as your argument carries no weight, so you defer to name calling and other childish gestures.

I would expect that from the boychild Gaf, but MrScott... I would have thought you knew better.

Yeah you two guys, just because Kagee is blind in sight and thought process and licks himself in funny places does not make him a poop eater. You are nothing but a bunch of bad old liberal name callers, so there. And sticks and stones right Kagee.

JB, the "leak" that is referenced in this troll has NOTHING to do with Valerie Plame, other than it was information obtained during the course of the Grand Jury investigation. That information is public record and now 3 years old. Why it is resurrected today and why all the media headlines try to associate this with Libby's supposed lie about "leaking" or "exposing" Plame is subject to one's guesstimation.

That's what I want to know. Of course it would be nothing new for a President to look into the camera and say, "I am not a crook", or "I did not have. . . .", but if my President authorized the identification of a covert operative and then lied about it I would be sorely offended.
And I agree with you 100%. If true, let the law run it's course.

I would also point out, after all this time and $$, Prosecutor Fitzgerald has yet to even prove the point that Valerie Plame was indeed a covert agent at the time in question.

Re: Scooter Spills The Beans!

I don't see anything wildly new here, frankly. For those of us that think that the administration had their mind made up long before 9/11 to find a way to sell the American people on going to war with Iraq, this is just one more thread in a tapestry of evidence that pretty well says that very thing.

It was a tool to use selective parts of the NIE to discredit Joe Wilson, and make the case for war. It's hard to say whether if disclosing Valerie Plame's name had anything to do with it or not, other than explaining Cheney's role or lack of role in sending Wilson in the first place.

And since no one is accused of actually leaking classified material, the notion that W might have declassified it is pretty irrelevant. Libby is accused of lying to the grand jury.

There is a lot more to come out, but I am sure it will just reaffirm what some of us already know--They were going to war with Iraq, and no one and nothing was going to stand in their way.

Kagee, You realize this info nor other info obtained during the grand jury investigation is public record until released into the court record.

It (NIE Document) became public record when the White House released it.

It is refreshing that there are only a few diehard administration defenders left on this board.
You can fool most of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.
With all the proof coming in for global warming,we might even see a few people regretting not having given their vote to Al Gore.

Re: Scooter Spills The Beans!

KaGee – I have a real hard time believing that you think that what Bush did was O.K.

Bush now says that he did authorize the “leak” of parts of the NIE document. I guess that means that he declassified that document on or before July 8th, 2003. But, 10 days later on July 18th, 2003 Press Secretary Scott McClellan said that the NIE document had been declassified that day, not July 8th. (again, )

But, if Bush did want to have the information to come out why didn’t he just declassify the whole document and have it release to the press? Instead, he had the info come out in the form of a “leak”. Not very Presidential or “Straight Forward Bush Like” was it?? :D ;)

This “leak” was a direct result of the article that Wilson wrote on how the Administration twisted the facts how Saddam was trying to acquire Yellow Cake Uranium from Niger. It was done for political purposes only!

Also, if Bush authorized the “leak” of the NIE document to discredit Joe Wilson, it is not much of a stretch to think that he would O.K. the outing of Valerie Plame.

How’s that for a “boychild”? ;) You must feel pretty emasculated getting beat up by a “Liberal BoyChild”!!! :p :D
