Re: Schooling Advice what should I do?
DC- no doubt, in todays workplace a college degree is equal to a high school diploma in the past generation. You may get a job in an entry level position but the odds are it will involve labor/no responsibilty/min.pay. That may be your desire and if so, there is definitely nothing wrong or shamful about that. Owning your own business is much more complicated than 99% of the people that open one understand. If you go and get your degree (and actually apply yourself in school to obtain as much knowledge as possible) then you will have the ability to go work in some similar business to the type you wish to open. Learn all about the way the business is run and then go out on your own. W/o the degree, who will hire you into their business in a capacity to actually manage and supervise where you can actually gain that valuable experience. It will also give you a handle on REAL cost/profit margins for your business type. I agree with the above concerning education beyond even the basic college degree. Its like an insurance policy that increases your income by multiples and is there backing you up for the worst case scenario of business failure. MY wife and I put off mariage for three years to finish our postsecondary education even though we had to drive 3.5 hrs each way to see each other every weekend. IT paid off, we are happily married and both finished school (she's a lawyer/I'm a dentist). I am currently working for the gov. to better learn the supervising women/supervising employees aspect before I go out on my own ( I also get to increase speed/become more efficient)... so i speak from experience about learning on someone elses tab! GO for it!! good luck
