What do you guys think? I was thinking of checking it out today, he only wants $50. Original owner, and has original manual. Was a sailboat back-up with hardly any corrosion. I'm going to check compression. He says it ran when he checked it a few days back, but just wasn't flowing water. Any of you fellas own or used these motors before? It seems to me that the parts for this motor are VERY pricey, and elusive, seeing as Sierra didn't pick up the smaller Merc's in their line-up. I think I'd be in dreamland if all I truly had to do was swap an impeller......

Not bad little motors. They're a single cylinder model, so they're a little buzzy - not as smooth as a twin. Pretty peppy for a 4.5, though. For $50.00, I don't think you can go wrong...

I'd second that. A lot worse ways to spend $50 :) My '75 7.5HP is solid. I'm expecting another 20 years out of it or better. That thing should look clean as a whistle under the cowl.

That's Mercury right there, quality engines...:D

Yeah but unfortunately there are a lot of idiot's out there that do not want to do proper maintenance on their little motors. But this motor was deemed the "iron seahorse" and for good reason!!
