Re: Saturn tunnel X-cat speed boat VS Mercury Inflatable

Saturn now have a new tunnel hulls with aluminum floors, look like best value over plywood, and they drop prices I see at http://www.boatstogo.com/inflatable_boat_X-CAT1.asp. I mean like 13' for $1299, that is sounds like a bargain. But transom look very narrow, do you think that could be a problem or should improve performance Boat look very shallow, may be it would be difficult to stay inside? Plus they recommend long shaft motor instead of short, and posts saying that short shaft should work just fine. However, I see that boat height is 27 inches from transom to botto of highjackers, isnt it too hight? Any opinions woud be appreciated as I am looking into buying that boat soon.

I bought one of these Saturn cats a couple weeks ago. I gotta tell you it is worth it for the money. I have this as well as a 14' Zodiac, and as far as quality goes I cant see where they scrimmped....maybe on using PVC but whatever, ive beat hypalon ones to hell too...The seams are triple glued, the ends have hard caps, floor is solid...plenty of room for 3-4 people plus gear...

Im running with a 2 stroke 15 hp and it screams...

Re: Saturn tunnel X-cat speed boat VS Mercury Inflatable

I already have a Saturn 12' Dinghy and was looking into getting one of these Saturn X-Cats. Saturn is recommending a long shaft motor with these boats and was just curious if anybody is running these boats with a long shaft? I feel like the cavitation plate on a long shaft will not align correctly with the water line when running these boats and cause a lot of excess water spray. Also does anybody do any tow sports with this boat? Kandil, what type of speed do you get with the 25hp?

Re: Saturn tunnel X-cat speed boat VS Mercury Inflatable

Thanks! My first post. I'm up here in Boston, Mass, just sold my 2 quads 'cause there is no place to ride, close to the city. Live 20 yards from the water so it's back to boating.
I've been looking at the 13" Saturn for my next toy, seems easier to find an engine thats a 20 inch not a 15 in shaft(?)
Great forum! Thanks!

PS Anything used out there for a complete package with trailer?

Hello,

I have a Saturn and it's made in South Korea. It's a hell of a boat and cost me a lot less than a Thundercat. The quality of worfmanship really surprised me. I thought that it would be a cheaply made boat, given the low price.

I ordered too, it should arrive this week. I will post pictures and videos soon, I paid around $1300 for 14 feet Xcat, and that is cheapest price I could find on a web for this type boat. In a worse case scenarion, if I would not like quality, I can send it back, as they offer 7 days money back, and I would update everyone if Saturn as good as they say or some cheap crap.

Deejaycee,

"with the 10,5 ft mini cat with 30hp suzuki I get 47 mph with the 14 ft cat and 50hp tohatsu I get 64 mph, with the 14ft cat and 55hp mercury, I get 81mph, with the 14ft cat and 70hp ces yamaha I get 90mph, with the 17ft cat and 90hp yamaha I get 100mph"

Are the big cats more stable and less likely to flip than the smaller cats? I'm going to need a good argument if I'm to convince my wife that we need a larger boat...which also happens to go a lot faster.

Re: Saturn tunnel X-cat speed boat VS Mercury Inflatable

I got this Saturn yesterday, inflated, boat look really cool and seams are clean. Transom a little bit too narrow. I was going to make pics and videos, but then I find out that there are already plenty of new pics and videos at supplier page http://www.boatstogo.com/inflatable_boat_X-CAT1.asp So no point for me to do now. But they say this boat is not for sport racing, I guess I will have to find out that myself.

nope, this design is not good enough for actual racing, just pleasure, if you look at the more intense design of the hulls that i race with you will see the difference ......

But what is exactly difference? What do you mean by more intense design? They all look the same

Re: Saturn tunnel X-cat speed boat VS Mercury Inflatable

Telebeep: When you say "narrow tramsom" what do you mean? Depth of the transom or thickness of the wood? Thickness would obviously affect the strength. Also, they state these new boats are for long shaft motors-is that correct? On the racing issues- I assume DJC means the various design differences- HiJackers look more aggressive on his boats, metal open transom to drain water are the obvious ones. Material and seams are probably stronger to handle the wear and tear. That said- nothing wrong with yours and you can't beat the price. Love to know how it holds up, how you set it up and what speeds you get.

Re: Saturn tunnel X-cat speed boat VS Mercury Inflatable

Just to let you guys know, Saturn kind of pulled a fast one on the consumer with these x-cats. They marketed the x-cats since they started carrying them as being able to hold 20+ hp motors on the smaller versions and on up for the longer cats. I guess they just picked a number and supposed that the transoms could support those motors. They apparently finally tested one of these themselves and the next day changed the max hp to 15 for the 13' and 18 for the 14'..."to avoid damage to the transom". Check the website, they have updated the information on these cats. 30 hp capabilities on a $1395 cat seemed too good to be true.....

Re: Saturn tunnel X-cat speed boat VS Mercury Inflatable

This are some cheap version off Saturn my Saturn X13 is rated for up to 40HP short shaft my transom is at least double the size off this new ones how thick are this transom? it looks very weak and the under side is not reinforced like mine. Now I see why they are cheaper this link is for what I think is a better boat it looks like the older saturn and it is rated for racing!!
