Forgive me if you've used this tactic but for those of you who have little ones that will be checking the tree Christmas morning I thought I'd share something that excited my boys when they were younger.

After they fell asleep I would dampen the bottom of my boots, set them in the ashes of the insert (oh yeah, make a big deal Christmas Eve about unlatching the door if you have an insert or stove so he can get in) and make some light tracks to and from the tree. All it takes to get them going is to point and ask, "What's that?" in the morning.

Worked so well that when one of my sons friends was asked by our local newspaper if they believed in Santa (for the weekly "Talk of the Town" section) Alyssa responded, "Yes, because Jarrett saw footprints in his fireplace!"

Key: remember to clean your boots before retiring for the night.

Merry Christmas to All!:p

Great post Deadwood:D

Thanks for the heads-up, we've got a few weeks left to plot and scheme.;)

Our 5-year-old will be the one trying to bust mom and dad since he's a natural born skeptic:)

Not having a chimney will be a small hurdle for us...maybe santa came in thru the attic?:p

The plate with cookie crumbs and empty milk glass are classic tactics to be employed here too.

Happy Holidays:)

that is a good one. i got an extra year of them being believers when one year we went to my mom and dads house for christmas eve. i had talked to my neighbor before hand and gave him the key to the house. showed where all presents were hid. then asked him to turn on tree lights and put all the presents under the tree while we were gone. So when we got home later that night and pulled into the driveway i ask my wife "did you plug in the tree before we left?" She of course said "no i did not" well when we got in the house and all the presents were around the tree. and mom and dad were right there with them all night. had to be santa that put them under the tree and turned on the lights. they find out to fast the truth so use what ever tricks it takes to give them another year or so.

To fool my nephews years ago I took a paint extension pole (about 12' long) lashed a small piece of pipe to the ends, climbed up a ladder to the roof edge and made hoof prints and sleigh tracks in the snow on the roof to the chimney. :D. Damn near killed myself doing it in the middle of the night after excessive eggnog but they bit for it!

This one time, at band camp. Oops different story.

"Santa" left mountain bikes in our basement one year for my two boys. When the younger of the two saw his bike he exclaimed loudly, "Wow, there is a Santa. Dad's too cheap to buy us bikes."

That was Santa's last year at our house. Bah Humbug.:D

We would bring the tree into the house and leave it undecorated on Christmas Eve. I'd tuck my son into bed and read him "Twas the night before Christmas" and as I left his room, I'd open the window beside his bed just a tad. (It was Maine). Then the Admiral and I would decorate the tree, put the gifts underneath and when done, we'd sit around drinking some hot toddy or something. At midnight, I would go out the back yard under his window and shake a set of jingle bells we had when I saw mom had turned the room light on. Then I would yell the last line of the book I read him...

"A Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night"...

Then I'd stash the bells under the couch, run into the living room with camera in hand. As he got to the bottom of the stairs, he'd turn toward the tree and his face would light up. I would snap as many photos as possible and then we'd celebrate till all the gifts were open.

I would get dozens of copies of the best photo and send them to all the relatives.

Priceless

Summer Fun,
Don't worry about it... Just do it this year and make up for the last 25!!!:D

Deadwood,
That's cool... The tree is right near the fireplace. It'll only take a few footprints. Thanks!!!;)

I put a dead reindeer on my roof. When the blood drips off and pools in front of the door, I point, and say "What's that?"

At 14, my daughter still leaves cookies and milk(yes, she knows). I don't think she wants to grow up. I don't want her to either!!!!

When my daughter figured out there was no Santa she was devistated. She then asked, "I suppose there's no tooth fairy either?". When we told her, she said, "What!!!". Poor kid.........

Funny you should mention that. Actually, she was afraid of the tooth fairy. Must of had something to do with someone/thing coming in her room at nite while she slept.:) I would have thought she would have been happy when she realized the fairy didn't exist. Must of realized she wasn't getting anymore money for teeth!
