I do also plan on reinforcing the hull with additional fiberglass and/or bulkheads. I should start a build thread for this...

this can be the build thread. just PM the mods to move.

remember, anything you add to the boat with regards to weight, takes away from its capacity.

the MFG cartop fisherman (sears gamefisher) had a total capacity of about 600#. (motor, gear, people, fuel, etc.) so if you add bulkheads, etc, that will take away from the capacity.

I'll PM the mods now... or as soon as I figure out how to actually use this forum :lemo:

I'm trying to plan out a build that's sturdier than the original boat, without sacrificing too much in the way of weight capacity. For that reason, I've been planning to keep it relatively simple and looking into coosa board for bulkheads/deck and a casting platform.

I am pretty set on building a flat deck for the floor with all my (limited) wiring run underneath. I figured hiding some bulkheads under there can't hurt. All told with two batteries, a 7.5 hp outboard, and a trolling motor, I think I'm looking at about 200 lbs in weight. I weigh 130. Does it sound like I'm giving myself enough leeway for decks, fuel and gear?

Each battery is 55#, the trolling motor is about 45#, add wiring and youre at 165#. A 7.5hp merc 2-stroke is 67#. A 3 gallon fuel tank and hose is 25#. That is 257#.

Add 40# of fishing gear, then 4# of PFDs, a 40# cooler with ice, then a jacket, hat, etc and you have 350# added. Then the 100# of fiberglass and other stuff you are adding for your "mods" and you are at 450

....add your 150# and you are at the weight limit and you have not caught any fish yet

if you add a bigger fuel tank, or a different motor, you may need to fish naked
