Re: Saint Johnn River trip
I think Gatorboater (Go Gators btw UF'86) had been stirrin his gin a bit too much. The sturgeon that are located at the mouth of the Suwannee are considered an endangered species. Rare to see one and the Fish and Wildlife folks will frown on you injuring one. The Suwannee is a nice river to boat. Pretty laid back. Right now it is coming off a flood stage. When it is high it can be No Wake most of the river. When low you can travel many miles from the mouth, just past White Springs. There is a small group of shoals that, unless the water is way up, will hinder anything but a portagable boat. The upper river is best enjoyed via a canoe. A great trip is putting in at the FL/GA border and paddling to White Springs. There is a lot of State land on either side of the river and a camping permit is easy to get. A three day easy canoe, two day with paddling and a one day humpin it trip.
