Saddam kills the people who tried to kill him and overthrow his government and for that he is being tried and may be hanged.

President Reagan is shot by a man and we let him out to go visit his relatives because he is rich. Where are we people. This is not left or right this is nuts.

Re: Saddam

Saddam killed women and children as well as male residents of the village where people tried to kill him. There is no evidence that any of the victims had anything to do with the botched assassination attempt. Nor is there any evidence that they attempted to overthrow his regime.

The guy who shot President Reagan has been in St. Elizabeth's Psychiatric Hospital for over 20 years. This is the first time he has had a pass to visit relatives. He is not rich, just nuts.

Will you ever get anything right?

Re: Saddam

Are you comparing saddam(small case intended) with hinckley?!
That's even a stretch for you, and one never knows what lengths you'll go to stir the pot around here.
I think there's a little difference between the two. Don't you? I mean...really tx. You can do better than that.

Re: Saddam

Comparing Saddam to John Hinckley is somewhat of an imaginative over-reach.
On a number of occasions Saddam has even been compared to Hitler and Stalin, of course that is giving Saddam much too much credit.
Saddam may have been ruthless but he has never possessed the level of intelligence and cunning of Hitler and Stalin.
An much more fair comparison of Saddam would be of someone such as Idi Amin.

Re: Saddam

Just comments for you folks who love to rant. 1. yes he is wealthy. 2. I do not care if he has been in prison 20 years, you do not get to shoot the President of the United States only to get out later to visit relatives. Guess somedays I am farther right than most of you.

Re: Saddam

JB, Latex, Alden and Dave and Darth, Ok you want to rant, did we not protect the shah of Iran who did the same thing as saddam, that is try to wipe out those who might overthow his government.

All I am saying is your consistency is questionable at best. And I still say Hinckley never sees the outside of a prison wall, let his relatives come see him.

How long has manson be in jail and do not forget the fellow named sirhan sirhan although some of you would probably want to award him after all it was the liberal Robert Kennedy killed by him.

Oh well think I will run out to the tank and see if I can shake out a bass or two. While I am gone do we treat em nice or punish em, you tell me, sirhan's mommie wants him home for a visit too.

Re: Saddam

JB, ya gotta recheck history, best I remember the US paid the Kurds to attack from the north and we promised to get there backs, they did we did not.
however the saddam trial is a farce that is embarresing the US. we set it up and they cannot run it.
I often wonder how hinkly got his day pass's.
while it was ruthless and inhumane the gassing quelled the rebellion. not much different than a lot of the posters here that propose shooting illegals on the border.
middle east history from the 1940's to date is very interesting, especially what the CIA was doing in the reagion in the late 50's to the mid 70's.
as late as the 80's we were supplying chem warfare chemicals to saddam and the CIA monitored the weather so they could tell saddam when the weapon would be most effective. then we observed and took notes as most the chemicals used had never been used on live humans before.
similar to what the japs did to the chinese from 38-45.

If you turn too far left, you end up going right. Or is it too far right you end up going left  Reagan would probably be OK with letting the guy visit his family. Reagan just seemed like a genuine nice guy. Personally, I don't think nuts is an excuse for anything. If the crime warrants it, execution gets them out of the gene pool.

Re: Saddam

John W. Hinckley, Jr., an insanity acquittee was committed to St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C. Obviously txs you are not convinced of Mr Hinckley's mental recovery, i am not at liberty to judge John Hinckley's state of mind, that is for his presiding judicial panel and the judge in charge.
Charles Manson and his accomplices were sentenced to life in prison as did Sirhan Sirhan who murdered RFK.
The devil is always in the details. ;)

The Shah of Iran was Indeed a puppet leader who was forcefully installed and supported by the USA, but as history has proven many times, in that part of the world no one can really be protected indefinitely.
The Shah may have been a scum bag who imprisoned and tortured all of those who were against his leadership and policies, but i have yet to see or hear of him using chemical weapons against his people.
If you want to compare the Shah of Iran to someone, a better choice would probably be General Pinochet of Chile. ;)
