Well, everything finally caught up to me. Was out of work for 4 months, new job starts at 1/2 what the old job paid and haven't had a single serious looker at the house.

So this afternoon I finally threw the boat on ebay, Guess we'll see how that goes. Hopefully it will find a new owner that actually appreciates jsut how good a condition it is in - being 14 years old.

Wish me luck....

and if you are reading this in Nigeria - don't go to ebay and bid :D

Gook luck with the new job! There will be other times for a boat, but right now ain't one of them. Be glad you have a job, cause there are still many that don't.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Little advice, take a couple hundred from the sale of the big boat and use it towards a little tinny with a small motor. It will cost you next to nothing to own and operate but will provide a substantial amount of boating fun even going slow. Take it as an opportunity to explore some of the smaller waters you'd never dream of taking the big boat too. Hopefully things will turn around.

last ten years or so I have been working in the detention industry  dong installs of security, fire and tele-data in prisons and jails. Started as a helper in '01 ended as a PM this past March.

Now working as an electrician for Dominion (power company here in va/nc - several other states too). At the very least it should be steady, there will be advancement opportunities and for the first time in 10years, I actually live at home. Travel has been almost eliminated.

Be glad you have a job, cause there are still many that don't.

AMEN!!! I was really getting concerned when I couldn't even get callbacks for jobs that I was "PERFECT" for.

Thinking along similar lines, but I really want my daughter to experience sailing and she will be jsut getting to the age next summer where it will be than just "wet and a little wind". Besided I haven't sailed in probably 15 years(I don't count charters) and we have been eyeballing those Macgregor 26's which I think would suit our "style" better than a traditional sailboat, but that is going to have to wait a few more years...

Well, just start counting all your blessings, like good health, a job, a good clean bed to sleep in, food to eat, a roof over your head, good friends. Heck, if I have to sell my boat, I can always drop right back in that old canoe that I've had so many good times in. It's all relevant anyway...look at all them poor devils in the Pakistan floods. My good buddy at church has got pancreatic cancer and he's 49 years old with 5 children!...makes you feel sorta LUCKY, don't it!

Sad sad day? I guess some people don't know how to appreciate what they have.

I am a 4 year college grad, private pilot and aircraft mechanic and I can't find a job in an area that is known for the biggest helicopter bases in the world.

Yea, sad sad day. YOU'RE STARTING A NEW JOB. I wonder how that feels.

180 - Sorry to hear about having to sell the boat. Congrats on landing a job.

The previous posters are absolutely right, we should all be thankful for what we have, shelter, food, a job, our health, and the health of our family.

Not to be a downer, but I too fear that things are going to continue the downward spiral for some time. I try to avoid watching the news anymore, it's just too depressing.

When you are in position to buy another boat just keep in mind that someone else will be having to sell his.

I got so depressed with the state of the country and economy that I put my U.S. Naval Academy class ring on ebay. :(

The opportunity cost of my class ring is so high, I would never even consider selling it.

Let me see if I can get this concept right...the opportunity cost of keeping my ring is my sanity, because when one finally has to hide his accomplishments and dumb-down his resume in order to avoid the "over-qualified" label, then be continually rejected because one does not have 3 to 5 years of direct, recent, relevant experience after practically begging for the job, one tends to go crazy.

One of my classmates/friends was the high bidder, so my action was thwarted. Maybe in a couple of years things will start looking up.

I wish you the best of luck.

Like others say, even in "bad" times we have it good in the best country on the planet!

Also, their are many opportunities to make money, even now, even in this economic climate.
I'm personally making more than i ever have in my life. Open your eyes to what's out there, don't be afraid to work hard and outside of your discipline!
