Just got back from taking my dog to the vet. Last night someone put anti-freeze in her food bowl. Vet said she tested positive.

She was a good dog. Never bothered anybody except barked when someone was around that shouldn't be. Now I've got to make the house more secure since the sheriff thinks they was getting her out of the way.

I can't believe that there are people that would do such a thing. I just don't know who would do this to my family. I know there is another puppy out there that needs adopted, just hope I can get another loving dog like she was. .... :( SS

Yes, we have had that problem here too.
Also ,keep your eye trained for signs of other forms of poisoning. Look for tin foil which seems to have been picked-apart, from candy bars, as choclate is poison to dogs too. If you find food or bones in your yard, and they aren't from your table, have them anylized for poisons.
I lost an old friend to renal failure, and the vet said she had injested anti-freeze. Seeing how I have allways taken my car to a shop for this service,as I have no place to dispose of the stuff, he had to have been given it.
That was in 1994, and I still miss him, and get very angry. If I were to ever somehow find out who had done this, I would be in prison, waiting my turn at the poison dog bowl.

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

Sorry to hear the bad news SSmayfloat. I've got an old dog here that has had a few things done to her also. She is a good old girl always stays on our property or the neighbors on either side. this gives her a lot of room to roam. She is well liked and well known by all around here. Once she came home with a rubber band wrapped so tightly around her tail, that part of it had to be cut off. About a month ago she was flipping out all day long, running around in circles, panting very heavily, crying, scratching herself raw. The vet said it looked like someone gave her drugs, probably some sort of speed. We almost lost her.It is a shame that dog has never had to be on a leash for 12 years. Now I feel we may have to tie her up to keep her safe from some scumbag coward. Like 12 footer says "If I ever find out who" watch out!!!

----------------
Flathead

Awww, DANG!! That is awful, Mayfloat :(

No other companion is as loyal and forgiving as a dog. If we need someone who doesn't care about our flaws and loves us unconditionally, nothing approaches a family dog.

My tears are with you. Best wishes for a loyal replacement.

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

It is weird. I just have one neighbor to the east of me. Retired city worker, keeps to himself, but loved our dog BEAR. The neighbor to the west is about an eighth of a mile down the road to the west. He lets his dog run free (which made me mad). Bear was always on her run. Her run was on a 350' cable with a 25'chain. She pretty well had control of about 85% of the yard. The rest around me is wooded. So that is why this is weird.

Last summer I had some fishing gear and stuff stolen out of our cars about 2am. That night she just about got them. About 3 weeks later they found out who it was. They were caught in another town doing the same thing and was arrested. We're thinking they are back out and just getting the dog out of the way to get into my shop and house.

Spent the last hour installing a motion sensor inside the shop hooked to a relay that powers one of those industrial buzzers that puts out 128 db. So loud you just can't be in the same room with it. IT HURTS YOUR EARS! I know that will wake me up and scare the crap out of them. Them buttmunches..... Thanks for the sympathy. Looking for a new family memeber to adopt......SS

The claxon is gonna drive ya buggy in short order, if like here in Florida, you got critters roamin around.
A better plan would be to keep the motion detector, but instead of a horn, get an old VCR, and hook it up to the motion detector. Cameras can be had for under 50buks . I would pick a B&W model with high resolution, and very low lux.
This is a link to a helpful site.

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

I had to put down my golden retriever last summer, he was 13 years old and very much loved. he had skin problems, joint problems, and heart problems, we kept him as long as we could, until he just plain gave up on walkin. we expected it and it still hurt us temendously. I can't imagine how you must feel..
Dogs are truly about the most devoted and loving creatures on the earth......do a search on the net for a poem called "a dogs prayer"

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

By the way,SS..It works great. I have a 2GHz color camera and receiver, that I hooked up to fulltime power, a motion detector hooked to the house alarm, instead of the siren. The siren is hooked up to a delay circuit (comes with the system I installed.
i aught my nieghbor's son on tape, entering the garage, and stealing my battery TV and some other items.
Strange youngun.

Thanks 12 Footer, My boss takes care of the security cameras at the McDonalds, I'm sure he will find the items to get me started. I'm more for a solenoid hooked to the trigger of a 12 ga., but that red stuff in the snow would look awful. :D Thanks,,,,,SS

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

I'm still try to figure out why someone did this. This morning I noticed dog tracks leading up to the back step where I kept my dogs bowls.

This got me thinking. Since this dog runs loose, is it possible that it had ingested the anti-freeze somewhere else, then got sick and threw it up into my dogs bowl? I always thought my dog should have been fatter for all the food she ate. Just a thought, trying to think of the possibilities........SS :(

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

SS, My sympathies on the loss of your dog. I hope they find the ^$#&*^(!!!!. Definitely get a camera and VCR. Get tape of the person and get them in jail. I bet it was the previous theif.

I installed motion sensor lights on my house, and they go off all the time. I am sure the neighbors love me. Unfortunately my lights still have an outside switch. There have been a lot of times when I have come home and the switch was turned off. If your horn is connected and goes off as much as my lights, then you will go crazy. Cameras can be out of sight and so you can catch the person committing a crime and putn them back in jail.

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

Sorry to hear that about the dog SS, I can't imagin the thought of my Magon being killed by some lowlifes, nor can I imagin what I would do Ifn I was to catch them in the act. I had my guarge broken into couple yrs ago, got my weed eater, chainsaw tools and toolbox. Turned out the cops cought the guys......now I have 2 weed eaters, and alot of extra tools, and my chain saw back to. Pressed charges along with several others they robbed. I hope you catch the varmits.

Hey, May,

My heart goes out to you.

Lost a good friend-Brittany/Beagle mix, stray- about 2 years ago-old age. She was a wonderful dog. Still hurts.

We have a Golden/Black Lab. mix now. She's goofy as all get out, yet we love her. Her antics lift one's heart.

I feel for ya!

What sicko's!

SS Mayfloat,
I'm a dog guy too and sorry for your loss.

"Now I've got to make the house more secure since the sheriff thinks they was getting her out of the way."

I'd keep that logic in mind.

Spring is a good time to raise a new pup.

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

Thanks Shipmates,

It has been a rough week so far. I grew up on a farm on the Ohio River and around livestock. The only animal I would get attached to was the farm dogs. However, if something happened to the dog such as getting sick or wounded, you would just put out of its missery. Never a tear would be shed, you just get another dog. (which was always easy, just feed a stray :D ) But being away from it for so long, emotions have run alot this week.

Skinnywater, you my friend make a good point, Spring is a great time to raise a pup. I have plenty of room and looking for a large dog. Wife and I are checking out Irish Wolfhounds or Mastifs.(gonna name it "TINY") Does anyone have either of these dogs? Curious to know their temperment. They must be able to get along with grandkids.. :D Thanks......SS

Re: Sad-n-hurt dog gone

SS Mayfloat,
I have two Airedales in the back yard. One is 13 years old, so I'll have three of them this spring.

I happen to know that the state of Ohio has some very well known breeders of Airedales and many International champion sires are close to you.

Find some pups that are from dark coloration, black saddle, carmel undersides. You'll want the parents to be 75lbs. or less.
These are tough dogs that won't get you hauled into court for killing the nieghbors Poodle.

Plenty of character and fun with this breed.
